Emergency Alert Test

The UK Government has launched a new Public Emergency Alerts system.

This system gives the UK Government and emergency services the capability to send an alert directly to mobile phones when there is a risk to life. Alert systems such as this are already successfully used across the world and save lives.

The system went live on Sunday 19 March and you may have heard that there will be a national test of the new system this Sunday (23 April). During the test, people will receive a message on the home screen of their mobile phone, along with a sound and vibration for up to ten seconds.
